January 1999

When next we meet:
DATE:   January 17, 1999
PLACE: Ruritan Clubhouse
TIME: Doors open at 4:00 p.m.
WHAT: Happy Hour 4 to 5
           Pea Soup Dinner @ 5:00

It's back to our regular location for our January meeting of Swedish Pea Soup. Members are asked to contribute items to compliment the soup -- knackebrod and crackers, finger foods, and desserts.  Nibbling food for the Happy Hour is also welcome.  As usual, the club will provide the beverages -- coffee, beer, wine and soda.

Please remember that gift items and baked goods are always needed for the raffle.

The program at this meeting will be Hans Thunander talking about Sweden

Ted Johnson will be opening up the old piano and leading us in a sing-a-long before our new club president, Leland Peterson, opens the meeting.

Leland would like to talk about the possibility of future programs.  Write-in ballots will be provided for members to

make suggestions about what we would like to have as far as entertainment and food choices in the future.  At the present time, we have Pea Soup in January, Pannkakor in February, BarBQ (cookout) in October, Turkey for Thanksgiving and Ham for the Ste. Lucia.  Be thinking about what foods you would like to have other months.  Our established programs are Midsummer in June, the Elections in November and the Ste. Lucia in December.  Are there other programs you would like to see added?  Please take the time to think about this, be prepared to write it in at the meeting and Leland will present the ideas for discussion at the February meeting.  This is a chance for everyone to pitch in and contribute, making suggestions as to what programs we would like to have and the foods we would like to eat.

Children's Activity
Bob Olson has provided us with Dala horses for the children. At this meeting we will be sanding and applying the red base coat. Please have your children dressed in clothing that they can paint in.

When Last We Met:.

Our Jul smorgasbord and Lucia Fest was a smash hit.  The location was wonderful and the guest singer was excellent. Gordon Nelson baked and carved the Julskinka.  A big thank you to all the people who helped make this a delightful evening.  Our Lucia procession was led by Maria Coker.  It was a lovely celebration and a wonderful way to start the Christmas season.
