MINUTES OF CWO & WO ASSOCIATION BUSINESS MEETING 
OF 09 FEB 2000 @ DENNIS’ STEAKHOUSE & NEWS LETTER 

1930 President Harry Huggins called the meeting to order:  Vice-President Will Wathan, 
 Treasurer Dave Sterling, & Secretary Hobey Stearns were present 
 A moment of silence was observed for all those who passed over the bar 
 Henry Domme lead members in attendance in the Pledge of Allegience 
 Matty Matteson read the Preamble 
 Distinguished members Matty Matteson & Harry Huggins were recognized 
 Pat Presidents John Hearn, Peter Brunk, Will Wathan, Bill Ambrose, & Matty 
 Matteson were recognized 

1935 Membership agreed to dispense with reading of the minutes from the last meeting 
 Association books were audited by Ben Kennedy and found to be in excellent order 
 Treasury shows a balance of $2070.09 
 The following members were listed on the binnacle list:  Buzz Sawyer, 
 Floyd McGowan, Horace Webb, Kay Nichols (wife of Dewey), and Betty Husky 
 (wife of Buddy) 

1945 OLD BUSINESS:
 $50.00 donation was made to find cure for Lou Gehrigs disease 
 $100.00 donation was made to the Franklin Flood Relief fund 
 $100.00 donation was made to support the Coast Guard Angel Fund 
 $50.00 donation was made to buy food to feed the homeless.  Harry Huggins, Buddy Moore, 
 Henry Domme and Will Wathan prepared the meal. 
 Hot Dogs were cooked for the Children’s Xmas and Halloween parties 
 at ISC Portsmouth.  Harry Huggins, Ed Ard, Henry Domme, Buddy Moore and Will Wathan 
 did the cooking. 

2000 NEW BUSINESS:  Committees for the year 2000 were formed: 

 ENTERTAINMENT:  Buddy Moore (Chair), John Hearn, Tart Daniels, Ed Kracker, 
 Ben Kennedy, & John Arnold 

 TELEPHONE:  Buddy Moore (Chair), Henry Domme, & Harvey Moore 

 MEMBERSHIP:  Hobey Stearns (Chair), & Bill Ambrose 

 BY-LAWS:  Ed Ard (Chair), George Cote, & Dick Coupe 

 BINNACLE:  Adrian Warner (Chair), & Dave Sterling 

 WAYS & MEANS/DOOR PRIZES:  Dave Sterling (Chair), Buddy Husky, 
 & Dave Meekins 

 LEGISLATIVE:  Will Wathan 

 HISTORIAN:  Henry Domme volunteered to be the Chapter Historian 

  DISCUSSION:  Up-coming joint active duty and retired CWO breakfast. 
  Henry Domme made a motion that the Norfolk Chapter host the event and provide a 
 continental breakfast.  Seconded by John Arnold.  Motion carried. 
 DATE:  09 MARCH 00 @ 0830, ISC PORTSMOUTH WHEELHOUSE. 
 National President Randy Cornell to attend the breakfast 

 The entertainment committee provided a tentative social and business meeting 
 schedule for the year 2000 to all members in attendance 

2040 Motion to adjourn meeting by Bill Ambrose, seconded by Buddy Moore. 

2041 Meeting adjourned by President Harry Huggins 

John Arnold was the winner of the 50/50 raffle after the meeting.  John graciously donated his winnings back to the
Chapter.

Put some green on and come and kiss that blarney stone for another year of good luck.  See you all
there.  Please remember, a reservation made is a reservation paid.  Thank you. 

For those of you that don’t know, Ed Ard is a member of the Tidewater Retired Council.  The council is a newly
chartered organization to pass on concerns of the retired military community. Ed sent out minutes of the last meeting to all Norfolk CWO & WO chapter members. 

HAMPTON ROADS OFFICER’S ASSOCIATION (HROA) UPCOMING EVENTS:

ALL EVENTS WILL BE HELD @ ISC PORTSMOUTH, AND SCHEDULED FOR THE 3RD WEDNESDAY OF
EACH MONTH. 

A. 15 Mar:  lunch or breakfast, Marine Safety theme. 
B.  19 April, (social, time and place TBD). 
C.  17 May, lunch or breakfast, Farewell/special recognition for PCOs & PXOs. 
D.  21 JUNE, “INVITE YOUR CHIEF” LUNCHEON WITH ADM JAMES LOY, COMMANDANT, U.S.
COAST GUARD. 

 SOCIAL AND BUSINESS MEETING CALENDAR FOR YEAR 2000

9 Mar Continental breakfast, 8:00 AM @ ISC Portsmouth Wheelhouse.  Sponsored by Norfolk Chapter CWO & WO Assn. Joint active duty and retired military welcomed. 

17 Mar St. Patrick’s Day corn beef and cabbage dinner.  4:00 PM @ ISC Portsmouth Wheelhouse.  (Ham will also be served).  Cost is $12.00 per person.  Reservation must be made with Buddy Moore no later that 11 March. 

7-8 Apr National Association meeting at RTC Yorktown.  Schedule to be published. 

28 Apr Steak out, 6:00 PM at ISC Portsmouth Wheelhouse.  Cost to be set at a later date.  Reservation must be made with Buddy Moore no later than 07 April 2000. 

18 May Business meeting. Location and time to be announced (TBA).  (Suggestions on a location would be appreciated)

17 June Pig-Picking, covered dish affair, 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM at the ISC Portsmouth picnic grounds.  Reservations must be made with Buddy Moore no later than 5 June. 

15 Jul Crab Feast.  Covered dish affair. 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM at ISC Portsmouth picnic grounds.  Reservations must be made with Buddy Moore no later than 10 July. 

4 Aug Coast Guard Day picnic at ISC Portsmouth picnic grounds. 

14 Sep Business meeting.  Location and time TBA. 

21 Oct Sea Food Fest.  Covered dish affair.  1:00 PM – 4:00 PM at ISC Portsmouth picnic grounds.  Reservations must be made with Buddy Moore no later than 16 October. 

16 Nov Business meeting.   Nomination and election of officers for 2001.  Location and time TBA. 

Dec Christmas Party.  Exact date, time and location TBA. 

20 Jan Installation Dinner.  Time and place TBA. 

We don’t like to end on a sad note, but Floyd McGowan, Lt, USCG, RET passed over the bar 19 February 2000.  You will be missed Floyd.  Please remember Floyd’s family in your prayers.
